2004 Grand Am Brake Rotor Removal

Brake rotor

The brake rotor on a 2004 Grand Am is designed to be installed over the hub bearing, which contains the CV axle. The rotor has a minimum thickness symbol stamped on its hub. When the rotor becomes so worn that it reaches its minimum thickness or surpasses this symbol after machining, it has reached the boundary of its appropriate get-up-and-go. When the rotor wears below the minimum allowable thickness, it is prone to overheating and warping. The brake caliper pistons can further grow into overextended, resulting in leaks.

Instructions

1. Uplift the front of the machine and brace it on the jack stands for safety. Remove the wheels with the lug wrench.

2. Domicile the filter pan under the brake caliper and administer the caliper bleeder valve with a wrench. The bleeder valve is the little hollow screw on the top rear of the caliper. Pry on the inner brake pad, which pushes the caliper piston back into the caliper Muzzle. Brisk the bleeder valve by tightening it.4.

Decent loosen the valve--do not remove it.3. Contain the screwdriver between the inner brake pad and the rotor.

Remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper to the caliper-mounting bracket. Lift the brake caliper off the rotor and hang it from the spring with a quantity of wire.

5. Tap the centre hub on the rotor with the hammer to rift the rust loose, then pull the rotor off by participation.
