Change A Chevrolet Thermostat

The thermostat helps sincere the temperature of vehivle engines. Locate and loosen the bolts on the thermostat cover.4. Take note of the position of the thermostat and then remove it. Scrape off the old gasket from the area where you removed the thermostat.

Instructions

1. Fix the upper radiator hose. Most Chevy thermostats are in a housing on the engine side of the upper radiator hose. If your thermostat housing is not here, consult your manual.

2. Remove the radiator drain petcock and then remove the radiator cap. Drain enough antifreeze so the level is beneath the top radiator hose. Replace the drain petcock. Draining the level beneath the hose will prevent antifreeze from spilling out of the hose when you remove it.

3. Take off the clasp on the radiator hose and remove the hose. You should now see the thermostat housing. In Chevy vehicles, the thermostat sits between the radiator and engine. This inexpensive constituent remains closed until the engine temperature reaches 180 to 195 degrees Fahrenheit. It then allows coolant to enter the radiator to biting off. A defective thermostat can produce the Chevy to overheat and damage the vehicle.

Place a small amount of grease on the new gasket and insert it into the housing. Make sure you purchase a gasket that will fit your Chevy vehicle.

5. Place the new thermostat in the same position as the thermostat you removed. Replace the cover and bolts. Reconnect the radiator hose. You can purchase a new thermostat from your favorite auto parts store by providing the model of your Chevy vehicle.

6. Add antifreeze back into the radiator. Turn on the Chevy and and turn on the heater. This will get rid of any air in the system. Recheck the antifreeze and add more if needed.
