Regenerative Braking


Conventional brakes use friction to transform a car's kinetic energy into heat energy. In a hybrid with regenerative braking, part of the braking is done by the electric motor operating as a generator. The motor-generator turns, converting the kinetic energy into electric energy. In order for this process to work efficiently, the electric motor must be larger and operate at a higher voltage (above 60V) than a conventional starter motor. Moreover, the batteries used must be capable of storing larger amounts of energy than conventional batteries.


Power Assist


A combination of the idle-off, regenerative braking and power assist features entitle the car to be called a mild hybrid. Power assist means that the electric motor has enough power to help the gasoline engine accelerate the vehicle. This added power allows for a smaller, more efficient gasoline engine with no loss in performance. The economical and environmental advantages of a smaller engine are obvious.


All Electric Propulsion


A full hybrid combines the idle-off, regenerative braking and power assist features with all electric propulsion. When starting off and when driving at low speeds, the vehicle is powered completely by the electric motor. A mild hybrid provides an abetment from an electric Engine to its petrol engine, converts the kinetic compel from braking to electric coercion, and stops the petrol engine when the automobile is stopped or in stop-and-go traffic.
