Switch The Alternator Belt On The 1992 Paseo

Instructions

2. Allot the routing diagram for the serpentine belt. The diagram will be located near the hood lock that is on top of the radiator cover.


3. Look on the front of the engine and locate the automatic belt tensioner. The tensioner has a pulley on one end that keeps the tension on the serpentine belt. Use the square hole on the back of the pulley to rotate the tensioner.


4. Slide the square part of the 1/2-inch drive breaker bar into the square hole of the automatic tensioner. Rotate the automatic tensioner counterclockwise. Pull the belt out from under the automatic tensioner pulley with your other hand.


5. Pull the belt out of the engine bay. Rotate the automatic belt tensioner pulley counterclockwise with the breaker bar. Slide the belt under the tensioner pulley with your other hand. Slowly release the automatic tensioner pulley and the tensioner will remove all of the slack from the belt and will tighten the new belt to the proper tension.


Route the new belt around the crankshaft pulley. Then, look at the routing diagram for the serpentine belt and route the new belt inside of the other accessory pulleys exactly as the diagram shows.6.


7. Look over the new belt to ensure that it is inside of the accessory pulleys exactly as the diagram has instructed. Connect the negative battery cable back to the negative battery post and tighten with the adjustable wrench.


8. Crank the engine and let it run for approximately 20 seconds. Turn the engine off. Inspect the belt one more time to make sure the new belt is still inside all of the accessory pulleys. Close the hood.
