Issues With Beginning A 2000 Silverado

The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado has 20 contradistinctive recalls on the vehicle from the manufacturer, on the contrary none of these recalls has dealt with the starting problems some Silverado owners get complained approximately, according to RepairPal.com. Most of these starting problems keep come from the battery leaking onto the battery cables.

Battery Leakage

The most common starting problem in the 2000 Silverado is from the stock battery that leaks at the terminals and onto the battery cables, preventing voltage from getting to the starter. The battery leaks and corrodes the cables, preventing the battery from recharging and sending voltage to the starting mechanisms of the Silverado. The battery needs to be replaced, and the battery cables need to be thoroughly cleaned or replaced to keep this starting problem from occurring.

Solenoid Problems

The 2000 Silverado also has solenoid problems that cause starting issues with the truck. The solenoid is located on the starter which engages the engine when the ignition switch is turned. The solenoid has a tendency to fail prematurely, preventing voltage from getting to the starter and engaging the engine. The solenoid will need to be replaced to correct this problem. The symptoms of solenoid failure are the same as if the battery failed; if the battery is in good condition, then the solenoid is the culprit.

This clicking sound does mean that the starter is getting voltage sent to the starting component, but it is not working. The only corrective action for this problem is to have the starter replaced.
