Change An Energy Pump Inside A Chevrolet Silverado

Modify a Fuel Pump in a Chevy Silverado

Changing the fuel pump in your Chevy Silverado Motor lorry is all the more simpler provided you stick to replacing the filled pump and fuel sending unit module well-adjusted, which is installed within the fuel tank. There can be some slight differences in removing and changing the module, depending on the year of the truck. In any case, it is best to change the module when the fuel level is low, since you have to remove the tank itself from the truck.

Instructions

Removal

1. Disconnect the Silverado's negative battery cable and open the fuel cap.

You might need to tap it with a brass punch and hammer to loosen it.7. Mark the exact position of the fuel pump flange related to the tank with a marker to ensure the pump's line connections will point the right way.

3. Raise the truck's rear end. Support it on jack stands. Unbolt and remove the protective shield covering the tank using a wrench. The shield might not be on some models.

4. Disconnect the fuel hose and EVAP hose by loosening the clamps with a screwdriver. Disconnect the EVAP line at the EVAP canister's end, then disconnect the fuel line at the tank. If there are any clips connecting the pump module to the body, detach them.

5. Unbolt the tank's straps with a wrench while a second person supports the tank, then slowly lower it and disconnect its electrical connectors. If you don't have a assistant, support the tank with a floor jack.

6. Grab one end of the fuel pump's locking ring with a large set of water pump pliers to unscrew and remove the ring.2. Open the fuel test port on one of the fuel rails and wrap shop towels around the port. Press the valve inside the port with a small screwdriver to relieve all pressure within the fuel system.

8. Pull the entire assembly out of the fuel tank slowly until you can reach the connector for the ventilation harness. Disconnect the harness and remove the pump module.

Installation

9. Lower the replacement pump module down into the fuel tank, making sure you protect the flotation indicator at the bottom. Line up the pump using the markings on the tank and the old module.

10. Screw the lock ring onto the tank and tighten it with either the pliers or punch/hammer.

11. Raise the tank into position, reconnect the lines and electrical connectors with their quick-connect fittings, and secure the tank with its straps and the strap bolts.

12. Reconnect the remaining lines and hoses, including the EVAP canister line and filler/vent hoses, using either their quick-connect fittings or the screw-operated hose clamps.

13. Reconnect the tank shield with its bolts, if equipped, and then lower the truck off the jack stands.
