Replace Rusted Cab Corners

Rusted vehicle panels can be replaced to restore vintage autos.

10. Smooth filler across the template and surrounding area until the body transitions completely into the template. Allow filler to dry.

11. Sand the filled area with 40-grit sand paper using long, horizontal strokes.

12. Lay a straight edge in a horizontal position against the template and body. Check for any uneven areas or holes. Repeat Steps 10 and 11 until all of the edges are flat.

13. Sand the filled area with 40, 80, 120 and 220-grit sand paper in successive stages.

14. Sand the surrounding painted area with 320-grit sand paper to prepare it for paint. Apply masking tape around the body panel and template that needs to be painted. Cover all areas of the vehicle that you don't want painted with a drop cloth.

15. Apply a small amount of grease remover to a shop towel and rub the repaired panel to remove any wax, oil or grease.

16. Spray two coats of etching primer on the repaired panel. Spray two coats of primer on the repaired panel. Use smooth, horizontal strokes during the spraying process. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next layer.

17.Sand the panel with 320-grit sand paper.

18. Spray three coats of base paint to the repaired panel. Spray three coats of clear coat to the repaired panel. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next layer.
