Connect Booster Cables

Employ booster cables to jump-start your dead battery.

Whether your van battery is less than three dotage senile, it should corner a extravagant proportions of brio yet left in the battery. But, provided you permit battery-operated components on in your van, while the ignition is turned off, the battery can quickly empty. The battery further has a attitude to filter quicker in below zero weather. When you treasure trove yourself with a dead battery, you can easily boost the battery's function. To complete so, you committal a team of booster cables (jumper cables) and a vehicle that has a battery charge.

Instructions

1. Field the running vehicle in front of the vehicle that has a dead battery. The vehicles should be facing one another in a "hood-to-hood" position. Acquire the vehicles as accelerated as doable, without truly touching.

2. Make sure that the ignition of both vehicles is turned off, extremely as all of the battery operated components. For example, turn of the radio, air conditioning, hazard lights and headlights.

3. Contemplate the drained battery for leakage and damage. Provided the battery is leaking, it is unsafe to convenience booster cables. Instead, it is necessary to obtain a new battery. If corrosion is noticeable on the battery, pour some soda onto the battery posts. The soda will eat away at the corrosion.

4. Look at the jumper cables to determine which two cables are "+" positive and which two are "-" negative. The markings will be on the the actual cables. The positive cables are often red. The negative cables are often black. However, you should still verify.

5. Look at the battery for each vehicle to determine which battery post is "-" negative and which one is "+" positive. The markings will be near each post.

6. Connect one end of the jumper cables to the vehicle that has a charged battery. The positive end of the cable should be connected to the positive end of the battery. When removing the battery cables, do not allow the ends of the cables to touch.

Connect the negative end of the cable to the negative end of the battery.

8. Turn on the ignition for the vehicle that has a charged battery. Allow the vehicle to run for one to two minutes.

9. Turn on the ignition for the vehicle that has a drained battery. It may be necessary to press the gas pedal a few times while attempting to crank the ignition. To avoid flooding the gas, if the vehicle does not start after a couple of accelerator pumps, stop pumping. Turn the vehicle off and allow it to charge a few more minutes.

10. Remove the booster cables from each car's battery after the other vehicle has successfully started. To remove the cables, first disconnect the negative ends from both batteries. You can then remove the positive cable ends from both batteries. Connect the negative end of the cable to the negative end of the same battery.7. Connect the other end of the jumper cables to the vehicle that has the dead battery. The positive end of the cable should be connected to the positive end of the battery.
